Sykehusklovnene En/No

The Norwegian group of health care clowns are called Sykehusklovnene

It all started with one health care clown in Bergen, Siv Øvsthus and another health care clown in Oslo, Tove Karoliussen. The two woman invited us in, one after the other, to build the organization Sykehusklovnene. 25 years later, Sykehusklovnene count 48 hospitals in 20 hospitals, a board and a powerful team in the office that facilitates, organize and manage the founding to make the magic happen. And the best of all, Sykehusklovnene has the trust from thousands of Norwegians that support the organization in one way or the other.

Sykehusklovnene are all professional trained actors, specialized to meet children and youth, their families and the medical staff in different units in the hospitals. We have created different programs and collaborate closely with the medical staff in all the hospitals. In procedural collaboration, the presence of health care clowns helps to reduce the need for sedatives, physical restraint and minimize traumas.

Since 2018 Sykehusklovnene established  mobile clown units, that visit children in their home surroundings. Our mobile teams meet children in palliative care, all over the country and keep contact with the children on digital plattforms, if they travel to hospitals abroad.

We aim to  bring out the child's playfulness in all different circumstances. We take part of interdisciplinary teams in pediatric palliative care. Sykehusklovnene is also member of EFHCO, European Federation of Healthcare Clown Organizations.   https://efhco.eu/</p>
